Justin - Head of Fitness

How would you describe your philosophy on fitness and wellbeing? Do you specialise in anything?

Health, fitness and well-being should be a lifestyle – not a finite endpoint. At the heart of my ethos is that training should be fun and enjoyable, that way it becomes a continual part of your lifestyle and you avoid extreme fluctuations in your approach to staying fit. I have a BSc (Hons) first class degree in Strength & Conditioning Science from St. Mary’s University. I specialise in rehab/prehab, movement biomechanics and functional fitness.

What inspired you to get into fitness?
Having come from a sporting family and having competed to county level in both cricket and tennis I’ve always been into training and continually striving to be the best version of myself as possible.

What do you get up to when not in lycra?
I am a self-confessed sport nut: tennis, golf, cricket, running, skiing, you name it I’ve probably tried it or willing to give it a go; and spending time with my wife and two kiddies!

How would you describe your philosophy on fitness and wellbeing? Do you specialise in anything?

Physical fitness is a state of health and well-being, achieved through good nutrition, moderate to vigorous exercise and sufficient rest. This for me equals wellness and happiness, mentally and physically. A lifetime in fitness has given me the opportunity to experience most fitness trends. My favourite being strength training and Pilates, but I also enjoy teaching boxing and Yoga amongst other training methods.

What inspired you to get into fitness?

My biggest inspirations are my parents, who live in Austria and at the age of 80 still head to the gym frequently. After studying classic dance and fitness for many years in Austria, I moved to England. After taking my exams for sports therapy and massage I decided to stay in the UK. After 35 years in the fitness industry, I am still very passionate about improving and helping my clients reach their goals.

What do you get up to when not in lycra?

I spend all my time with my six-year-old son who we home-educate. He fills my diary outside the gym. We are usually found outdoors, either in the beautiful New Forest or our local beach. When at home gaming or reading books.

How would you describe your philosophy on fitness and wellbeing? Do you specialise in anything?

My Philosophy of fitness lies much deeper than what we see on the outside. Exercise is all about overall wellness, including mental wellbeing. Fitness is the concept of looking after your body and also listening to it. Working out should be fun and enjoyable as well as a challenge. I have a fond interest in bringing out the best in everyone, by reaching your goals and having a good time whilst doing it. Whether you want to grow muscle, feel more confident or need assistance with rehab or prehab I will make it my goal, to achieve your goal.

What inspired you to get into fitness?

Fitness has very much dominated the majority of my life. My hunger for success all began at the age of 8, when I competed in artistic gymnastics. I began to outgrow gymnastics as I found myself going up the England hockey pathway. I started out playing for Hampshire and after serval years of trials, I secured a place for the England U18 squad at the Home Nations tournament. Playing at Lilleshall was an eye-opening experience and it really taught me the foundations of athleticism and professionalism in the industry.

What do you get up to when not in lycra?

When I am not at work you will probably find me at the beach, swimming, surfing, running or walking my dog. As well as giving myself my own fitness goals at the gym. Anything outside in the elements is my idea of heaven.

How would you describe your philosophy on Fitness and do you specialise in anything?

My philosophy on fitness is incorporating every element of overall health together to join the jigsaw puzzle. Looking into movement, functional strengths, health, well-being and nutrition in order to feel your best. Working for over 10 years in a medical spa, I have experience in Gut health, prevention, nutrition and working on many elements of the body inside and out to help reset and re-energise. I also work a lot with neuro sensory stimulation and barefoot movement.

What inspired you to get into fitness?

I have always had an interest in sports and activities. My passion developed more over time with personal life experiences. I love trialling and testing new ways of looking after myself in order to be able to pass and share this with others. I love being with people and forever learning new skills and knowledge.

What do you get up to when not in lycra?

In my spare time I love to be outdoors, early morning walks along the seafront and outdoor exercise. I play the Saxophone, so I love music and a good dance. Movement and music make me happy! I also love cooking, being brought up within a family restaurant.
