Jam Industries is a lifestyle clothing brand whose concept is to design clothes that we wear the most and can move seamlessly from cities to coastlines and back again. We are very excited to be welcoming Jam Industries to Curated, our Herb House shop, where we have a great range of their men's & women’s clothes including knit jumpers, zip ups, summer shirts & vests.
Come along and see the latest summer range which is in store now!
We wanted to get to know them a little better, so we spoke to co-founder, Andrew to find out more about Jam Industries...
Tell us a bit about how Jam Industries came about and what the inspiration was behind the brand?
Jam Industries was born out of a desire to create a simple and timeless wardrobe for all sexes that would travel effortlessly between coasts and cities. Initially we positioned ourselves as an ‘apres surf’ brand focussing on style and comfort, however as we have evolved and global workplace conditions & wardrobes have changed, we’ve found ourselves delivering a broader ‘work to weekend’ wardrobe, with many styles such as 1/4 zips replacing suits!
Family is clearly very important to Jam Industries, can you tell us a bit about how the family plays a role in the brand?
Family is the most important characteristic to Jam. We feel that a family will always go above and beyond for each other and deliver the extra care and attention to the work they are doing at all times. As we have grown, we have tried to maintain the family feeling to everyone that works in the business, we seldom use titles to ensure a level playing field, and we like to know as much about what our colleagues are up to in their free time as to what they are doing within the workplace. Having a strong relationship with our team helps us curate their roles and growth to suit their needs and desires and hopefully improve the fulfilment-factor from their jobs.
Tell us one thing you love about working as a family business?
My favourite thing about working as a family business has to be the ‘care’ factor that comes with it. We are all very intent on keeping each other happy; not everyone’s lives are going to be plain sailing, and when someone needs a bit of extra care, we are there for them (or they are are here for us) in whatever way they should need. It’s very nice to get up every morning knowing that someone will go to bat for you each day, and you too will go to bat for them. It’s also really fun working with the people you love most!
What 3 words best describe Jam Industries?
Timeless, Family, Journeys
Tell us about your stores?
Unlike a lot of brands that have grown over the past ten years we have always believed in relying on physical retail stores for growth. We find that physical retail offers a chance at sharing our brand 'personality’ and culture in a way that is impossible to replicate through a website (although we will try). Not only do stores provide a 360-degree insight into our collections but meeting our customers face to face helps us build much longer lasting relationships with our audience, whilst also offering us a direct feedback loop as to what they want. Our entire team works in stores daily, from our designers to our marketing and ops managers, because that is where the heart of the brand is. We feel that retail outlets to a fashion business are a bit like the kitchens in a family home… it’s where all the magic happens!
What makes your products unique?
Our products have always been designed to satisfy 5 key product criteria: Trans-seasonal, transcendable (for all ages), transportable, comfortable and sustainable. Our hope is that by hitting these design criteria as much as possible we can curate a wardrobe that gets maximum use, it’s made to be lived in. We love nothing more than the idea that a jumper might leave us for a new home where it will be shared and loved by an entire family. If you think about it, the more use a product gets, the better value it is!
What products can we expect to see in Curated?
The curated store stocks some of our favourite timeless essentials, from our cashmere-merino wool 1/4 zips to our ladies’ cotton jumpers. Not only are these products that are made sustainably and responsibly, but they are also the garments that fall into our 'slow style’ collection, meaning they are designed to remain fashionable forever! You can buy them now, and still expect to be wearing them in years to come, whatever your age!
Can you tell us about your sustainability initiatives?
Our biggest sustainability initiative is to have zero waste. We tend to hold a smaller number of products and stock to ensure that every garment gets sold and nothing goes to landfill. Along-side this we are continuously working to ensure we use only natural fibres and reduce our production miles where possible by making garments closer to home! We are very conscious of the fact the fashion industry is a major polluter which is one of the reasons we always wanted to create timeless garments that will stay with you for many years, versus engaging in fast fashion fads that are here today and, in the bin, tomorrow!
Have you got any exciting projects in the pipeline?
We are continuing to open more stores; we have just opened in nearby Lymington and hoping to add another store in the very near future. We are also working to expand our product offering into new areas that will also satisfy the needs of our high-flying and travelling customers.
